Overview

Why does carbon matter for facilities management?

The SFMI (Sustainable Facilities Management Index) and BAM FM are pushing the industry to understand what the relationship of FM could be with business carbon emissions. FM can increase the value of its role by understanding carbon measurement and taking a higher responsibility for emissions, driving the holistic strategic approach for their organisation. Doing this will allow the FM to engage more in the strategic future of the business, positioning themselves more as providers of positive outcomes, beyond operational solutions and so will drive up its value.

The SFMI and BAM FM are nearing the release of a series of tools, stress tested by a variety of professional bodies, including IWFM. These tools will help push FM to understand its impact on carbon, especially in the contested scope three area, and engage with the business in the strategically important zero carbon agenda. But it requires a fast-upskilling programme to get there.

Join the panel on Wednesday to understand FM’s role and impact in driving down carbon emissions, what tools are available, the why and what of measurement, what problems to solve, and how to choose and leverage the supply chain to achieve outcomes.
