Speakers

Fionnuala Byrne

Director, Facilities, EMEA, Google

Fionnuala has worked in the FM industry for 20 years with experience in property management, office fitouts, contract management and workplace services.  Since joining Google in 2006 as Facilities Manager for Dublin, she has greatly expanded her role and is currently Director of Facilities with responsibility for delivery of FM and workplace services throughout EMEA.  Her role focuses on developing and delivering innovative workplace solutions, change programmes and operational services across a diverse office portfolio in 26 countries, managing over 3M sq. ft and 20,000 Google employees.

Fionnuala is passionate about the FM industry and has been deeply involved with both the SCSI and IWFM for a number of years - with a particular interest in helping new entrants to the industry and promoting Women in FM.

She was the recipient of the prestigious Facilities Management Leader Award in 2019.

Vincent Harrison

Managing Director, Dublin Airport

Vincent Harrison has held the role of Managing Director of Dublin Airport since 2014. Prior to this he was Director Strategy, Regulation & B2B and has also held senior financial roles within daa.

In 2019 Dublin Airport welcomed a record 32.9 million passengers, up 5% on 2018, and added 25 more destinations. Serving over 190 destinations, Dublin Airport is the 9th largest airport in the EU. It is also consistently ranked in the top 5 large airports in Europe according to passenger ratings.

Vincent has served as a member of the policy committee of ACI Europe, the representative body for European airports, and on the Council of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation. He currently sits on the Board of Dublin Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of their Council.

He has previously held senior financial and management positions with Esat/B.T. in Ireland and with Rubbermaid Inc. in USA and in Europe.

Vincent holds an MBA degree from University of Pittsburgh, USA and a B.Comm degree from UCC and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.  Vincent qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in Dublin.

Chris Kane

Author, Advisor, Advocate

Chris’s latest publication, Where Is My Office? draws on his knowledge and experiences in commercial property to investigate what the 21st century workplace needs to look like.

Chris Kane has worked in the Corporate Real Estate sector for over 30 years, having operated as a Partner at JLL,  Vice President of International Corporate Real Estate for The Walt Disney Company and Head of Workplace at the BBC; where he was responsible for the creation of MediaCityUK in Salford, the redevelopment of Television Centre and oversaw the £1bn development of Broadcasting House.

He is a Fellow of the RSA and RICS and a co-founder of Six Ideas, a global community of thought leaders focused on workplace development, place making and innovation. Chris has extensive experience as a Non-Executive Director and currently serves on the Board of Elstree Film & TV Studios.  Chris has served on the boards of Laganside (Belfast)Corporation, Network Homes, NHS Property Services and Reach2 Academy. He also sits on the editorial board of the Corporate Real Estate Journal.

Stephen Lynch

Global Health and Safety Lead, LinkedIn

‘Stephen is the Global Health and Safety Lead, working and collaborating with the entire workplace organisation to ensure we continue to prioritise the health and safety of our employees, vendor, and visitors at all our sites globally.

Stephen has been part of the wider LinkedIn Workplace team since 2013 and brings 10+ years of facilities coordination experience gained at companies like Microsoft, Northern Trust and Symantec.

Danny McCoy

CEO, Ibec

Danny has been CEO of Ibec since 2009. Prior to joining Ibec, Danny was a senior economist at both the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and the Central Bank of Ireland in Dublin. ​He has held lecturing posts at Dublin City University, University College London, University of Oxford and Trinity College Dublin. He is currently President of the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland. ​

Martin McMahon

Managing Director, Accent Solutions

Martin is a very experienced FM professional.  He started Vector Workplace & Facility Management in 1999.  Following a merger of the business in 2004, the enlarged organisation was floated on the London and Dublin Stock markets in 2005, the enlarged business continued to grow, both locally and internationally before being subsequently sold to an international operator for €54m. 

Martin is a serial entrepreneur - his current company Accent Solutions, established in 2012 with Anne Ita Ryan, is 3rd major business venture.

He is also an active mentor, investor and through the DCU Ryan Academy Propeller Venture Accelerator has invested in several start-ups.

He is an active member of the IWFM Ireland Committee.  He was awarded the Smith Testimonial Prize by the IEI (2002), shortlisted for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (2003), awarded the Fellowship of the Ryan Academy, presented by his peers with the Leadership Award for Contribution to the FM Industry (2016). 

Jim Meade

CEO, Irish Rail

Jim Meade was appointed Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail in in May 2018.  He had previously been Director, Railway Undertaking since 2013 responsible for all passenger and freight services.

Jim began his railway career as an apprentice fitter in 1979, joining the company as a fitter in Limerick Locomotive Shed upon completion of his apprenticeship in 1983.

Since then Jim has worked in a range of roles including fleet maintenance management, strategic change programmes, District Manager in Limerick, and Regional Manager in the west of Ireland, before becoming Director of Train Operations.

Jim leads the management team in ensuring that the railway is operated and maintained in a manner that prioritises safety for passengers, employees and third parties; provides a quality customer service to all who use the rail network; strengthens the productivity and performance gains that have been achieved in recent years to secure a sustainable financial position; and delivers rail’s contribution in support of the Government of Ireland’s policies on sustainable development.

Áine Mulcahy

Managing Director, OCS Ireland and Aviation UK

Áine is responsible for the OCS commercial business on the island of Ireland and all Aviation Services throughout UK & Ireland.  She is responsible for the delivery of customer-focused total facilities management (TFM) solutions for both private and public-sector clients. Her responsibility is to oversee the successful delivery of an annual turnover of more than €80 million, where she is involved in the day-to-day commercial management of all site operations. Aine regularly meets with clients to provide best-in-class service to each of them in a tailored, personal fashion.

 

Áine leads from the front, she excels at customer relationships, ensuring that client satisfaction and maintaining compliance are top priorities.  Áine has a MSc Degree in Professional Sales and Business Management and a degree in Social Studies.  Additionally, Áine also holds a range of executive and facilities management qualifications.”

Eileen Slamon

EMEA Workplace Programme Lead, LinkedIn

Eileen is the Workplace Programme Lead for LinkedIn, based in their Dublin Campus in Wilton Place where she has responsibility for Communications, Community Engagement, Finance, Food Services and Sustainability programmes in LinkedIn’s 13 offices across the EMEA / LATAM region.  Prior to this she was the Workplace Manager for the Dublin Campus.    Eileen was a member of the project team which delivered LinkedIn’s award winning EMEA HQ Building in Dublin in 2017.  She is a member of the IWFMA Ireland Committee and a passionate advocate for Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging in the Workplace.

Before joining LinkedIn in 2013, Eileen worked for Bank of Ireland where she held various positions in IT, Operations, and HR before moving into Facilities & Property Management.

Leo Varadkar, An Tánaiste

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment

Leo Varadkar was born and raised in Dublin. He is a qualified medical doctor and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin.

Elected Taoiseach in June 2017, Leo Varadkar presided over a period of strong economic growth during which employment levels reached a record high, the public finances moved back into surplus, real incomes rose and poverty and deprivation rates fell to a ten year low. As Taoiseach he led Ireland’s negotiations on Brexit which ensured that there would be no hard border between North and South and the common travel area and reciprocal citizens’ rights between Britain and Ireland would remain in place. The period has also been one of major social reform during which referendums were held and won to end Ireland’s constitutional prohibitions on abortion and blasphemy and to liberalise divorce laws. Ireland also ratified the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities and the Istanbul convention against domestic violence during his time as Taoiseach. 

Following the 2020 General Election, Leo Varadkar led Ireland through the public health crisis caused by Covid-19. In his new role as Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, he is now helping to lead Ireland through the economic crisis it triggered. This means getting businesses back open and people back to work.

He was a member of Fingal County Council (2003-7) and elected to Dáil Éireann for the Dublin West constituency on his first attempt in 2007 and was re-elected to a fourth term in 2020.

As Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport (2011-2014) he connected Dublin’s light rail system (the Luas), helped restore growth to the tourism industry and led the ‘Gathering Ireland 2013’. He also gave Shannon airport independence from Dublin and developed Ireland’s National Sports Campus. He look a leadership role on road safety tightening up Ireland’s road traffic laws.

As Minister for Health (2014-15), he brought in free GP care for children up to age 5 and adults over 69, after decades of delay got Ireland’s long-promised new National Children’s Hospital through planning, government approval and the legislative process and published the Public Health Alcohol Bill which is now law.

As Minister for Social Protection (2015-16) he increased pensions, social welfare payments for carers, people with disabilities and lone parents. He introduced paid paternity benefit for the first time in Ireland and extended new social insurance benefits and protections to the self-employed and farmers. 

He is parliamentary leader and President of the Fine Gael party (EPP affiliate) and led the party into a historic third term in government in coalition with Fianna Fail and the Green Party.

As Ireland’s first openly gay cabinet minister and Taoiseach, he was involved in the successful campaign to secure marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples and has championed improvements to sexual health including extending the HPV vaccine to boys, made HIV testing more available and introduced a free public PrEP programme.
