The last year has been an important one for our profession. Our members voting in favour of name change signalled an exciting opportunity for our profession – including making FM a career of choice.
At the same time, however, the broader UK FM market in which many of our members work has faced a challenging year, after the high-profile collapse of Carillion in January 2018 and the financial difficulties experienced by Interserve. These challenges have occurred against a backdrop of considerable political and economic uncertainty due to Brexit.
It’s in this context that we explore what our members think about the outlook and the factors affecting it, based on their experiences over the last 12 months and their predictions for the next 12 months. We also took the opportunity to ask our members about their views on skills, training provision and apprenticeships.
This report is based on an online survey of IWFM members in April 2019, to which 251 people responded. We received responses from a broad cross-section of people, including senior managers and decision-makers, and both representatives from client organisations and FM service providers.
