Report

This year the BIFM Pay and Prospects survey shows insight across a number of key salary related areas in the Facilities Management sector, including pay and benefits, promotion opportunities, industry experience and future plans.

The 2017 survey attracted responses from 518 participants, the majority (71%) were male and more than a third stated they work in middle management roles (37%), with around a quarter working within senior management (26%).

About a third (32%) of our respondents work within a facilities management (FM) provider or FM outsourcing organisation with the remainder (68%) working within a non-FM organisation that has in-house FM personnel. Amongst these FM providers or FM outsourcing organisations, over a third (36%) work within the property sector, while 24% work within education.  Over a quarter of respondents (27%) working for an FM provider state that their organisation employs between 1001 and 5000 people.

Of respondents working within a non-FM organisation, over half (58%) were facilities/estates/building managers, whilst 13% were directors of estates/facilities/ property.  More than a fifth (22%) of respondents working within a non-FM organisation reported that their organisation’s primary function is education, followed by 14% who cited finance, banking, insurance and law as their organisation’s primary function. Three in ten (30%) respondents within non-FM organisations stated that their organisation employs between 1001 and 5000 people in the UK.
