‘Agents of change: from net zero promises to genuine progress’ with Inenco

In the wake of COP26, join us for this webinar which will explore ways to unlock the route to net zero and the role FMs can play to support genuine change. We’ll share thinking on how to build a successful road map and look at how we can support members with further guidance around data sources, collation and management.

It has been said that ‘we are on a journey of discovery about climate change’. Indifference followed by idealistic target setting; and now that it’s effectively five to midnight, the reckoning. Spring 2022 will bring another IPCC report and huge pressure on governments and businesses to act in meaningful and measurable ways.

So, what needs to happen? IWFM research supports the view that better data and transparency is essential to genuine progress on decarbonisation. Despite public commitments, we have found that a concerning proportion of organisations lack baseline data for their carbon footprint, clear objectives and a roadmap and strategy describing how the targets will be met.

Many organisations have yet to create a ‘golden thread’ linking the board’s aspirations to a detailed holistic plan with clear accountability, allocated budget, and appropriate resource to ensure its achievement.

Facilities professionals will be key agents of any joined-up approach to the board and being instrumental in its delivery. Now more than ever, the opportunity to influence behaviour in tangible ways can help organisations to achieve the genuine change that we all need.

Stuart Wright

Operations Net Zero Delivery Director, Aviva

Stuart started work as an Army officer in the Royal Engineers, training first as a Military Engineer and then more formally as a Civil Engineer.  A career change (after 20 years) took him briefly to PA Consulting and then to Aviva.
