Overview
BIM data for FM systems: an introduction
As key stakeholders involved in Building Information Modelling (BIM) projects, it is essential that facilities managers (FMs) have clear insight into the BIM process and the value that BIM data can play in the operational phase. The development and adoption of the UK BIM Framework and the ISO 19650 series of international standards has created a trusted means of providing a fully populated asset data set at handover. Yet all too often questions concerning the how, when and whys of leveraging BIM information can be a major stumbling block.
This first part of a two-part webinar series, hosted by the IWFM Technology SIG and chaired by Cathy Hayward, Chair of the IWFM London Region, will provide an introduction for FMs seeking to use BIM information to support an effective facilities and asset management strategy. You will also have the opportunity to put your questions to our panel.
Part two, to follow on Thursday 20 May, will provide practical guidance on how to use BIM information.
For this webinar, however, the panel, comprised of three of the authors of the IWFM ‘BIM data for FM systems’ good practice guide, will introduce the BIM workflow, the opportunities afforded by BIM data in building lifecycle management, and explain FM’s involvement in the process. They will provide advice regarding planning what data requires collection, by whom and when in the BIM process. Register now and get involved!
