The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has released an ‘Inclusive Design Overlay’ to provide guidance on implementing inclusive design through each RIBA Plan of Work stage. Our Head of Policy and Research, Sofie Hooper, and Jean Hewitt CIWFM, technical author of BSI’s PAS 6463 ‘Design for the Mind – Neurodiversity and the Built Environment’, both peer reviewed the guide, with a particular emphasis on considerations for facilities managers.
By outlining inclusive design tasks aligned to the RIBA 2020 Plan of Work, the Overlay equips built environment professionals to embed inclusive design into project briefs and delivery using an industry coordinated guidance framework. Find out more and download it by clicking here.
For further guidance in inclusive design, please see the IWFM good practice guide ‘Managing accessible and inclusive places‘, which Jean Hewitt authored, and our recent webinar ‘Neurodiversity and the built environment’, where Jean Hewitt was a panellist.
