23 June 2025
IWFM’s major new series of strategic asset management (SAM) good practice guidance continues with the release of SAM Guide 2 – Strategic considerations.
The full 5-part series is aimed at workplace and facilities managers (WFMs) with any role in asset management. As a WFM you’re likely to be involved in the management and maintenance of the physical assets themselves, but you may have an increasing role in handling the information that's required throughout the asset lifecycle – from acquisition, daily use and maintenance through to obsolescence and disposal.
Guide 2 gets into the detail and will show you how to:
-
Unlock the value of relevant asset information
-
Understand organisational objectives and strategic asset management plans
-
Move to a strategically managed approach to assets
-
Structure asset register delivery and optimisation of outputs
-
Use asset information for financial decision-making & investment planning
-
Understand Performance and KPIs
-
Think about regulatory compliance and standards
The full five-part series, produced in partnership with Amey, is being released weekly, with Guide 3 set to follow on Monday 30 June. They’re available free of charge to IWFM members, or they’re available for purchase to non-members from the IWFM website at iwfm.org.uk/samguidance.
