About GMRC
GMRC provides environmentally controlled storage for Glasgow's vast museum collections, housing around 1.4 million objects. These collections span various categories, including art, natural history, technology, world cultures, archaeology, arms, and more.
Event highlights
- Guided tour: Enjoy a 30 - 45-minute guided tour of several of the 17 purpose-built storage pods. Get a glimpse of some of the collections not currently on display at our museums.
- Decarbonisation project presentation: Hear from colleagues at CBRE Global Workplace Solutions and Glasgow Life Facilities Management team about the £2 million decarbonisation project. This initiative, funded by a £1.5 million grant from Scotland’s Public Sector Heat Decarbonisation Fund managed by Salix, includes:
- Installation of air source heat pumps
- Solar panels
- Upgrades to building fabric and control systems
- Estimated annual savings of 156 tonnes of CO2, supporting Glasgow Life’s emission reduction goals
