Well that’s a wrap! Starting on 7 March, Rising FMs planned and took part in an initiative to conduct online interviews with secondary school students for National Careers Week in the UK.
So many of you volunteered to help out, and we cannot thank you enough – you have all played a pivotal part in providing interview experience for each and every one of these students. Over the course of three weeks, we collectively interviewed 240 students, which is fantastic!
Preparing students for the future
Without our initiative, many of these students would have gone without interview practice, which is something we feel is extremely important and a great way to prepare students for the future. The main aim of the exercise was to let the students talk about themselves, their interests, skills and any ideas they may have for the future. It was a brilliant way to see how prepared they were, and what they were doing to put themselves in good stead for when they reach the end of their school year.
The school we worked with welcomed the idea with open arms and were thrilled to take part, saying: ‘This initiative was a brilliant way to get students speaking about their future career prospects. The last couple of years have meant that they have missed out on many careers talks and we wanted them to participate and gain some confidence with regards to speaking to other people about their skills and career choices. It has been brilliant watching students take part, and we thank those who offered to help.’
Opening up opportunities
We are also delighted that so many of you that volunteered to interview, have also offered placements to these students during their work experience week in July! What a wonderful way to demonstrate the different paths that the FM industry can take you on, opening up a whole world of opportunities for these students!
This initiative is something that we are passionate about, and we are hoping to participate in this for years to come to give secondary school students guidance towards the end of their school lives.
Once again, thank you to everyone who gave up their time to take part and help us with this wonderful initiative – we couldn’t have done it without you!
