Guidance note

With the impacts of the global pandemic, this past year has been one of significant change in the facilities management and workplace arena. Social distancing, one-way systems, adapted office layouts and frictionless access are some of the highly visible changes to many workplaces. There may also be many other changes, such as improved air quality and ventilation strategies, that might not be fully visible to an occupant.

Our new guidance note, developed in partnership with Trend Controls, intends to assist workplace and facilities professionals in developing their understanding of the systems and processes that can be successfully adopted to minimise the impact of the spread of pathogens and contaminants, therefore enhancing the health of the buildings they have responsibility for.

It provides straightforward guidance on the use of techniques and modern technology, irrespective of budgetary or operational requirements, by optimising the use of the premises and associated building services to maintain as healthy and safe environment as possible for occupants.

Trend Controls said of the guidance: ‘The team at Trend is delighted to collaborate with IWFM on this guidance note and we hope you all find it useful. There is no doubt that healthy buildings are at the front of everyone’s minds today, and the FM community as a whole is fundamental to delivering relevant, practical solutions to address these issues – today and tomorrow. We believe that the Building Management System industry must also help to educate and encourage end users, consultants and specifiers to demand better, sustainable solutions for healthier buildings. We see this guidance as another strong step on that path.’
