Public procurement: up to £37 billion of infrastructure work in the pipeline

The UK Government’s centre of expertise for infrastructure and major projects, the Infrastructure and Projects Authority, has released the National Infrastructure and Construction Procurement Pipeline 2020/21 with details of 340 procurement contracts across more than 260 projects, programmes and other investments which are planned to be brought to market during the current financial year.

Last published in 2018/19, the pipeline provides greater clarity and much-needed confidence on public infrastructure projects which will play a central role in rebuilding the economy out of the coronavirus crisis.

Procurements include works across all sectors, including repair and maintenance services (worth some £5.7 billion), construction, consultancy and inspection services.

The Construction Leadership Council recently called on the Government to publish its infrastructure work pipeline as part of the industry’s Roadmap to Recovery plan.

Details of the pipeline procurement plans can be found here.
