Today’s workplace and facilities leaders operate in a constantly changing world. One where workplace, asset management and facility services play a crucial role. Leadership requires flexibility, strategic thinking, specialist knowledge, and the skills to influence and to drive change.

That’s why the IWFM Academy has created a first-of-its-kind, Level 6 leadership programme, where operational excellence meets strategic influence.

Overview

Whether you’re already in a leadership role, or your career is heading in a more senior direction, you need to be ready for everything the job can throw at you.

This unique IWFM Academy programme is designed to develop strategic thinking that elevates workplace and facilities management (WFM) to change the way your workplace and facilities team is perceived – from a functional provider of essential services to a vital, value-adding, strategically critical business partner.

By the end of the programme, you’ll be able to understand the evolving role of technology, sustainability and human-centric design in the built environment. You'll be ready to drive cultural change to inspire teams, influence stakeholders and build a workplace culture that boosts performance and wellbeing. In addition to the transformative skills you will now possess, you will also hold a Level 6 qualification equivalent to degree level.

The programme uses a blended learning approach that includes independent study, guided activities, a library of resources and tutor-led workshops to fit into your schedule.

About the programme

Strategic Leadership in WFM

This introductory module is focused on the expectations, mindset, and behaviours required to lead strategically in the dynamic and complex world of WFM. You will examine the difference between strategic leadership and operational management, ways to align WFM strategy with organisational goals and how to inspire people to drive change.

Unit-1.jpg

Unit one: Introduction to workplace

You’ll develop your knowledge of WFM as a discipline from a range of perspectives, recognising the relationship and importance of workplace within the wider organisation and society. You’ll be able to evaluate positive and negative workplace impacts and influences on individual and organisational performance, including the roles and responsibilities of workplace managers and leaders.

Unit-2.jpg

Unit two: Making better workplace decisions using data

Explore why WFM data is important, including the ways in which data might be used or misused in decision making. You’ll be able to evaluate the role of the WFM practitioner as a positive influence on the nature, quality and use of WFM data. You’ll develop your approach to framing problems, determining appropriate questions and using WFM data effectively and ethically.

Unit three: Selling your workplace vision

How do you build a robust, evidence-based case for workplace change? You’ll appreciate why developing a compelling vision and value proposition, and communicating ideas persuasively is critical.

Unit-4.jpg

Unit four: Digital technologies in the workplace

Develop your knowledge of digital technologies and their role in WFM leadership and management. This unit will help you to identify both the opportunities digital technologies offer to create better workplaces, and the role and responsibilities of the WFM leader.

Unit-5.jpg

Unit five: Behavioural insights into workplace

Develop your critical understanding of why insights into human behaviours are relevant to WFM, looking at the scientific and economic concepts and ideas that underpin human decision making and behaviours. It will help you to make judgments about how to apply these insights to improve workplaces and peoples’ responses to them, with consideration of any ethical implications.

Leadership skills for WFM professionals

This final module is focused on essential skills to lead people, shape WFM functions and to drive change. You will become an expert in transforming WFM from a service function to a critical business enabler driven by value.
