Apprentice Week

A Trailblazer group of experts, sponsored by the British Cleaning Council, is developing a new Level 2 apprenticeship for the cleaning and hygiene sector and is inviting service providers, employers and other industry stakeholders to comment on their proposals.

Feedback is being sought on the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for cleaning hygiene operatives to provide a full range of cleaning and disinfection services in healthcare and commercial environments, enabling service users, staff and other users to thrive, work, and develop.

Comments on the proposals will be taken into consideration by approving body The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) in the next stage of the process.

The Trailblazer group anticipate that this much called-for training and development programme - with optional pathways for healthcare and commercial settings - will enable Apprenticeship Levy funding to be invested in the cleaning and hygiene sector and help to change perceptions of it as a ‘low skilled’ industry.
