Over half (53%) of workplace and facilities management professionals have a good or excellent understanding of the circular economy framework concept, while only 13% report little or no understanding, findings from the second phase of the IWFM Sustainability Survey 2022 reveal.

However, almost a third (30%) of FMs have little or no understanding of the circular office and how circular economy principles relate to workplace management, presenting an opportunity for the profession to potentially make further cuts to embodied carbon in workplaces by enhancing their knowledge on the subject.

The ‘IWFM Sustainability Survey 2022: Circular economy’ summary report, available to download now in an accessible infographic format, also shows that those with a good or excellent understanding of applying circular economy principles in workplaces sat at just over a third (34%).

Peter Brogan, IWFM Head of Research and Insight, commented: ‘Many of the findings from this survey make pleasant reading for the profession. Clearly, most FMs are on top of the circular economy more generally, but there is also an evident opportunity here for FMs to make progress. Enhance your knowledge of designing out waste and extending the lifetime of products and materials used in offices every day, and it’s possible our profession could help to make significant reductions in their organisation’s or clients’ embodied carbon.’
