As the nation shows its support this Armed Forces Week (19–24 June) for all those that comprise the forces community, IWFM has been developing plans of its own for this key group.
Many veterans leave the armed forces with skills that can easily be transferred to the workplace and facilities management profession. While we hold in mind those serving and their families, reservists, cadets and veterans in that community, we thought this would be the perfect time to tell you about a new IWFM community we’re developing specifically for our members who are veterans within facilities management (FM).
The influential leaders and veterans who have come together to develop the new community are Mark Baker, COO - Government, Sodexo; Charlie Antelme MD Commercial and Government - Mitie; Alistair Scott, Director Integrated Estates Management; Mark Moseley Director PestGone Environmental and Louisa Clarke – Director One Feather Coaching and representative on the Government Veterans Advisory Board.
Louisa Clarke said:
‘Our goal in creating the group is to establish an armed forces family where veterans can come together, network and support each other in developing their careers. We’re excited to be a part of an initiative that harnesses the talents of this important group in our sector.
’FM is a natural career of choice for those leaving the armed forces as many already have the required skills and competence to join and develop their careers within this critical profession.’
Jonathan Nobbs, IWFM Director of Membership and Partnerships said:
‘The development of this group is an exciting step forward for IWFM as we further explore ways to support veterans in the workplace and facilities profession. I’m delighted and thankful that we’ve been able to convene this high-powered group of veterans in our membership. While IWFM has a rich history supporting the veteran community, there is still much work to do to provide the awareness and support to veterans considering their next career step, but together, we can look to change that.’
