IWFM recently took part in a major careers event in Guernsey, engaging with hundreds of students and educators to highlight the diverse opportunities within the workplace and facilities management (WFM) profession. IWFM is committed to positioning WFM as a career of choice for the next generation.
Held over two days, the event attracted interest from local schools, colleges and sixth form centres. Wednesday evening’s session was open to the wider public, while Thursday focused on students from across Guernsey and Alderney. In total, around 1400 students from Years 9 to 12 attended.
The IWFM stand proved a popular destination throughout the event, thanks in part to an interactive ‘Job Pong’ game that encouraged students to explore the breadth of roles available in WFM. The game sparked lively conversations about career pathways, qualifications and the skills needed to succeed in the profession – with the added incentive of chocolate prizes for participants.
Katherine Torode CIWFM, chair of the IWFM Channel Islands Region, said: ‘We had some great networking, conversations talking around WFM as Career of Choice, a number of enquiries around qualifications and how to get started with WFM and even some people considering a career changes. The CI Committee would like to thank Corporate Members AFM and Q3 for their support and helping out on the stand throughout the event.’
IWFM’s wider ‘Career of Choice’ initiative aims to raise awareness of WFM as a dynamic and rewarding profession.
The Channel Islands Committee were central in organising and staffing the stand, supported by Corporate members AFM and Q3, who ensured that visitors received expert insights and practical guidance throughout the event. The Committee expressed its gratitude to both organisations for their hands-on support.
