Sean Robson

Business Director, Sodexo

I joined Sodexo after an 18-year career in the British Army, where I served with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. I was deployed on multiple operational tours, including Kosovo and Iraq, and in 2005, I was awarded the Military Cross for actions in combat. I left the Army in 2017 following a medical discharge, and since then, I’ve thrown myself into facilities management with the same drive and discipline I had in service.

These days, I’m Sodexo’s Business Director for Manchester Foundation Trust’s Oxford Road Campus, leading over 1200 colleagues and delivering measurable growth and social value. But the work I’m most proud of is supporting fellow veterans, helping over 230 former service personnel find their footing, mentoring many, and championing policies that ensure Reservists, Cadet Adult Volunteers, and military families are recognised and supported.

I’m thrilled to be Co-Chair of the Military Connection Network and Sodexo’s representative on the Veterans in FM Committee within IWFM, because I know what it means to feel adrift after service, and I know how powerful community and purpose can be in helping someone find their next mission.

Outside of work, I’ve earned degrees in Business and Facilities Management, including post-graduate degree’s in strategic leadership. If you catch me off-duty, I’m probably mentoring someone, speaking to the next generation about leadership, or solving complex challenges with stubborn optimism and a good brew. Our network isn’t just about recognition, it’s about action. It's about showing veterans they don’t have to start over alone. We’ve got their back.

Steven Roles

Steven is a highly experienced Facilities Manager whose career began with 24 years of service in the British Army. During his military career, he undertook operational tours with the United Nations in the former Yugoslavia and several tours in Iraq. These experiences provided him with invaluable skills in leadership, logistics, and resource management, as well as the ability to deliver results under pressure and lead diverse teams in challenging environments.

Since leaving the Army in 2007, Steven has established himself as a client-facing Facilities Manager across a wide range of sectors. He spent his first decade as an in-house FM within an engineering consultancy, where he was responsible for managing complex estates and embedding service improvements. He then broadened his experience by working in the hospitality, care, charity, and consultancy sectors, gaining a reputation for his ability to adapt to varied environments and deliver consistent operational excellence.

For the past two years, Steven has been a Facilities Manager at the University of Glasgow, supporting the operations of one of Scotland’s most prestigious academic estates. His role involves not only ensuring high standards of service delivery but also contributing to long-term sustainability initiatives and enhancing the overall workplace experience for staff and students.

Steven is also an active committee member of the IWFM Scotland Region, where he helps to shape the profession through events, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities. He is passionate about supporting the growth of Facilities Management as a recognised profession, while also championing the value that veterans bring to the sector. With a career that spans both military and civilian life, Steven combines leadership, technical expertise, and people-focused management, making him a respected voice within the FM community.
