Community Volunteering

IWFM offers its members a range of opportunities to contribute to the Institute and to support the future of the profession. With a growing community of like-minded facility management professionals who are giving their time to make a difference, whilst developing their own skills in the process, there are multiple ways to get involved.

There are opportunities to join Regional groups across the UK and beyond, giving you access to a network of professionals in your area, helping you to establish links across the industry as well as offering opportunities to broaden your professional perspectives.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are an opportunity to facilitate the sharing of best practice and knowledge in subject areas around sector, specialism and people development, helping you gain expertise to support you in your current role or progression in your chosen field whilst sharing your own knowledge and expertise.
There are also opportunities to support IWFM CPD and social events, to share knowledge and expertise and to contribute to IWFM surveys and publications.

Networks focus on members who share common characteristics, such as gender or career entry routes. The volunteers within these Networks will not only support the career development of a particular member cohort, but also play an ambassadorial role with members and wider stakeholders, provide challenge and insight on specific issues relevant to the Network, and support public policy agendas where IWFM may need to respond.

Our valued volunteers are at the heart of IWFM, contributing to the present and shaping the future development of the workplace and facilities management. Volunteering enables us to engage with our growing community and allows you to gain the most from your IWFM membership.

By volunteering with IWFM, members play a key role in extending benefits to our wider community through sharing knowledge and experiences in the profession.  In addition, skills-sharing help develop others’ through CPD, networking and other social events, and our volunteers’ expertise and advocacy continue to support the professionalisation of the workplace and facilities management.
