Overview
The IWFM People Development SIG represents professionals responsible for leading, managing and developing people across the workplace and facilities management (FM) profession.
We believe that people strategy is fundamental to organisational success. Our mission is to ensure that people considerations are embedded into corporate decision-making at every level — because high-performing FM organisations are built on capable leaders, engaged teams and strong workplace cultures.
People Development in a Changing FM Landscape
FM is evolving rapidly. Digital transformation, ESG commitments, regulatory complexity, hybrid working models and rising client expectations are reshaping the profession. At the same time, the sector faces persistent challenges:
- Skills shortages and talent retention
- Developing confident, future-ready leaders
- Workforce wellbeing and engagement
- Succession planning and clear career pathways
- Diversity, equity and inclusion
- Delivering value while maintaining operational excellence
In this environment, people development is not a support function — it is a strategic priority.
The SIG provides a platform to explore how organisations can strengthen leadership capability, build resilient teams, enhance performance and create inclusive, high-performing cultures across FM operations.
