Moses Ayoola BEM, BA (Hons), MA, FIWFM, FIHEEM, Director of Estates, Facilities and Capital Development at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

“As an IWFM member for the last six years, I wanted to contribute my expertise, provide strategic guidance and help shape the Institute’s direction, so I applied to become a NED. It has really helped broaden my strategic insight and adaptability.

“Within the Board, I highly support EDI because it is crucial in promoting innovation, effective decision making and provides a wide range of views and diverse perspectives. Additionally, I aim to enhance the reputation of IWFM and the WFM sector, encourage students to choose Facilities Management courses and for Mentors to guide Mentees at an early stage, empowering them with knowledge and tools to solve problems, innovate and contribute to the sector’s development.

“To be a successful NED, you need: a strategic vision; the ability to analyse complex data and information; communication; high ethical standards and integrity; plus, the ability to collaborate. The IWFM NED role plays a significant part in shaping and aligning IWFM's strategy and vision, mission and purpose. It is a great opportunity to contribute to IWFM’s direction and learn how a Board functions.”

Jake Drummond MBA CIWFM, Chief Operating Officer of MoJ Property.

“Being passionate about WFM, I wanted to contribute to IWFM’s mission alongside my day job. On the Board, I have enhanced my strategic leadership skills, grown my network and enjoyed being involved with the strategic conversations about IWFM’s direction.

“Being a NED is flexible within my schedule. My day job is very similar to my role as an IWFM NED; I provide insight from both organisations and help to shape and develop IWFM’s profile within government, but also to highlight the opportunities available to IWFM members within the Government Property Profession.

“Diversity of thought is critical for the Board, but it’s equally as important that the diversity of our members is represented at Board level equitably. Being represented by colleagues from different backgrounds with a range of experiences, all contributing to the quality and richness of the Board’s conversations, is important to ensure that all can feel that they belong in IWFM.

“It’s vital IWFM NEDs play a role in shaping IWFM’s strategy, vision, mission and purpose. Members expect IWFM to be progressive and in step with industry innovations and trends, so having NEDs who have recent experience in the sector is a great benefit.

If you’re considering standing for nomination, go for it. It’s a fantastic experience, you won’t regret it!”
