Could you be IWFM’s next Non-Executive Director (NED) helping to shape the future of the Institute to the benefit of our members? Nominations open on Monday 17 April, and we want to hear from you if you are member of IWFM Certified grade or above.

For this important role, the IWFM Board is looking for high quality, experienced candidates with the following key skills:

  • workplace and facilities management industry knowledge and insight
  • strategic thinking
  • commercial and financial competence
  • ability to navigate and engage political environments.

We welcome and encourage participation from all members of the workplace and facilities management community, regardless of gender/gender identity, age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, belief, marital status, pregnancy or any other personal characteristics or circumstances.

Here is what IWFM Deputy Chair and NED Andrew Hulbert had to say about serving on the IWFM Board:

‘Being a NED means channelling the voice of the sector at a board level and holding the IWFM executive team to account for the way they run the Institute. It is a professional privilege to get regular meeting time with the executive team, to support, contest and progress together. It’s been interesting to see how a professional body operates and the different challenges it faces. I have opportunities to shape the thinking of the Institute and drive the EDI agenda. This, in part, led to the creation of the EDI Focus Group.’

NEDs are unremunerated but have the same statutory duties, responsibilities, and potential liabilities as executive counterparts, so this is not a role to take on lightly.

To be eligible to stand, you must be of IWFM Certified grade or above. Eligible members can self-nominate but need two members (who hold Member grade or above) to second their application. Corporate member and Group member main contacts can second an applicant but cannot be nominated as an NED unless they hold their own individual membership at Certified grade or above.

Eligible members will receive an email from our independent scrutineers, UK Engage, explaining the process and how to self-nominate via an online platform. Ensure you check your junk and spam folders to avoid missing this opportunity.
