From Monday 17 April until Friday 12 May, nominations will be open for three Non-Executive Director (NED) vacancies within the IWFM Board. Now celebrating its thirtieth year of advancing our profession, the Institute can only maintain its vision for excellence if it forefronts innovative ideas and provides a platform for those seeking to inspire impactful change. Could you play a key role in shaping IWFM’s future?

For these important roles, the Board is looking for high-quality, experienced candidates with commercial acumen and specific skills to balance those already on the board:

  • workplace and facilities management industry knowledge and insight

  • strategic thinking

  • commercial and financial competence

  • ability to navigate and engage political environments.

We welcome and encourage participation from all members of the community, regardless of gender, age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief, marital status, pregnancy, or any other personal characteristics or circumstances.

‘I am excited to support and influence our organisation’

Here is what long-standing IWFM Non-Executive Director Marilyn Standley had to say about serving on the IWFM Board:

'I was fortunate to be re-elected for a second term as an NED in 2021, following a long period without much direct engagement with the IWFM Board and Executive team. I was initially surprised at how much the organisation had changed since I had previously been a BIFM Board member [Chair from1995 -1997]. Back then, we often discussed our aspiration to be a Chartered Profession, but conflicting views and a lack of established professional qualifications meant any real prospect remained distant. Now, I am excited to support and influence our organisation as it moves towards Chartership to be a truly modern professional body, embracing the different experiences of our members.'

NEDs are unremunerated but have the same statutory duties, responsibilities, and potential liabilities as their Executive counterparts.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to stand, you must be of IWFM Certified grade or above, and must have held this grade for at least 6 months. Eligible members can self-nominate but need two members (of Member grade or above) to second their application. Corporate and Group member main contacts can second an applicant but cannot stand as an NED unless they hold their own individual membership at Certified grade or above.

Eligible members will have received an email from our independent scrutineers, UK Engage, explaining the process and how to self-nominate via an online platform. Ensure you check your junk and spam boxes, so you don’t miss the opportunity of standing to become an IWFM Board Non-Executive Director.

Nominations will close on 12 May 2023. The planned election date is 26 June 2023 and online voting (by IWFM members of Member grade or above) will take place between 26 June 2023 and 21 July 2023, with the ability to also vote on the day at the IWFM AGM. New NEDs are announced at the AGM which will take place in London on 27 July 2023, with an opportunity to join virtually. Registration for the AGM will open soon.
