IWFM is keeping the workplace and facilities management conversation moving with a brand new podcast series exploring workplace wellbeing, brought to you in partnership with Sodexo. Now we bring you episode two as Chris Moriarty and a variety of expert guests discuss wellbeing and the physical environment in ‘Space to thrive’.

A key part of the wellbeing debate is the physical environment’s impact on our physical and mental health. Whether it’s air quality, natural light exposure, the noise levels, time spent sitting down, the space we work in has a big role to play in the health outcomes of individuals.

Awareness of space as a factor in wellbeing has been growing in recent years as numerous studies have started to show how it impacts our wellbeing. As an example, one study in the EU suggests that the lost productivity through absence or illness caused by musculoskeletal disorders could cost the equivalent of 2% of GDP. It’s clear, therefore, that it's important to understand its impacts and how facilities managers could harness space to help rather than inhibit health and wellbeing.

What needs to change to raise awareness of these factors? What are the most influential elements? What role do individuals and organisations play in changing this; and are we becoming more aware of the environment around us? Listen in to find out.
