Though it’s tempting to say ‘good riddance’ to yet another turbulent year, as I reflect on 2022 and look beyond the crises, what I’m left with is the strong sense of a year in which we embraced change, informed by our members and their needs, and the belief that greater change is to come by virtue of our profession’s unique position to bring about the seismic change needed to build a better future.

Having ensured members remain at the heart of the Institute and its decision-making last year, we continued ‘Shaping the Institute together’ alongside the many members who engaged in our membership value consultation, helped to enhance our offer, and informed our new three-year strategy.

Members also helped us to identify where we should target investments in products and services to enable your success in 2023. To fund this crucial work, we need to make a nominal increase in membership fees, but if you’re experiencing financial difficulties, please contact our Member and Customer Engagement team to discuss your options.

Please see below our highlights from 2022.

Next year we celebrate the Institute’s thirtieth anniversary. We have seen so much change in the 30 years since we merged two organisations to form a single UK body, from the rise of the internet age to gradually repairing the hole in the ozone layer.

Both examples bear a striking resemblance to challenges and opportunities facing us today in sustainability, the future of work, and data and technology; then as it is now, it’s uncertainty and indecision that pose the greatest risks to business, while those in the vanguard of change benefit society and in turn their bottom line through innovation and market expansion.

Waiting for consensus or hoping for conditions to improve are euphemisms for failing to act and failing to act has one consequence: being left behind. Don’t be left behind. Take the chance to create change and lead the way.

At our future-focused Conference, we inspired you to be ‘agents of change’; 2023 will be the year our profession continues to fulfil its true potential with fulsome support from your Institute and our community of experts in Regions, SIGs, and further afield, such as our partnerships.

Thank you so much for being a member of IWFM. We look forward to supporting and equipping you to be the change businesses and society needs in 2023 and beyond.

With kindness,

Linda Hausmanis
IWFM Chief Executive
