What we’ve reported on

FMs are still being left out in the cold during the design and construction stages of a building - despite the overwhelming majority of a building’s life cycle being the operational stage.

You, of course, will be banging your heads, but the frustration is that FM is still not seeing its long-term operational voice added to critical conversations about embodied carbon. You can read about this serious underrepresentation here and here

In our weekly discussions with Andrew Gladstone-Heighton and Wynna Ní Riabhaigh at IWFM’s policy department we’ve been discussing the need for FMs to move from climate change mitigation to adaptation, an important, albeit but, from the perspective of the FM debate, a potentially sector-enabling distinction.

What we’re working on

Our March-April 2026 edition will be thudding on your doorsteps soon. As always, the production process has been intriguing and insightful, reaffirming just how dynamic the workplace and facilities management profession is. Features include one on how meanwhile use spaces came to be and what opportunities they offer to landlords and FMs; and how outsourced FM service providers are partnering with third parties to expand the breadth of their provision, enabling them to develop stronger overall market strength.

You’ll also meet a young, bright and ambitious director of global workplace management at a major engineering, architecture, and consultancy firm.

If you read one Facilitate piece…

Former prison officer Amy Potts is now working at SBFM and feels she can effect greater change in the lives of prisoners and prison leavers through the service provider than she ever could in her former role.

Potts’ motivation is that she wants to make a difference and being a prison education & skills trainer enables her to do just that.
