What we’ve reported on

More acquisitions, steady occupier markets and the development of FM-related standards have topped our agenda over the past fortnight, as well as welcoming into the world our bouncing baby March/April edition with its features on meanwhile spaces, supplier partnerships and more.

Sustainability is also in the news with government money coming to help businesses electrify their fleets, and ministers indicating that they may rely on a voluntary approach to carbon accounting (remarks that came in response to the Environmental Audit Committee’s Environmental sustainability and housing growth report and recommendations). All this alongside IWFM’s own new guidance on climate adaptation.

We’ve also seen Mitie introduce a new charter for its suppliers - what could this approach mean for service firms' supply chains?

What we’re working on

Happy World FM Day! Well, that at least, is our plan. This is because we’re talking to IWFM’s various networks, regions and groups about the event's central 2026 theme of the built environment's role in ‘cultivating belonging’.

We’re also looking in more detail into the changes to FM apprenticeships mentioned recently by the government, while there’s a portable solar panel revolution on its way which may have significant repercussions for occupiers’ approach to energy.

Compliance is forever the name of the game, so the new fire risk assessment competence rules represent a critical piece of learning for FMs. A new framework (BS 8674) defines competence across three levels – foundation, intermediate and advanced, each linked to building complexity and risk. You can check out how we’ve been reporting on this new requirement here.
