What we’ve reported on
Despite being a fun-loving bunch, we are sad to announce that we did not play any April Fool’s tricks on you, dear readers. Instead, our news reporting from across the sector covered a necessarily broad range of topics - like our recent coverage of the immediate energy and cost-saving wins to be made by retrofitting solar panels to facilities. This is obviously a sustainable retrofit choice long-term, but with the war in the Middle East, it is quickly becoming a commercial consideration.
We chatted with the Security Industry Federation and S12 Security Guarding Leadership Group about a petition to make assaulting a security worker a standalone offence to afford them similar protections bestowed upon emergency workers. Security operatives face an increasingly hostile environment and the petition – which has already passed 10,000 signatures required for the government’s response – could do a lot of good in this regard.
Nick Hardwick, one of the recipients of the Devorah Rowland Scholarship, provided us with an update on his progress so far, six months into the year-long programme.
What we’re working on
Work is well underway on the May-June 2026 print edition of Facilitate and we’re excited about how our publication dates align so well with World FM Day – the theme of which has provided an exciting spark to involve IWFM’s thriving volunteer community.
We’ve a piece feature on biophilic design is coming together well, and we’re eager to share an update on this evolving best practice.
If you read one Facilitate piece…
One of the staple service streams of FM, cleaning is being boosted by advancements in technology. The refrain, always, is that automation enhances the human work experience rather than removes the need for people. Colin Pepper, strategic project manager at JPC by Samsic, has written a piece for us arguing that the tech transformation of cleaning is an opportunity to upskill rather than deskill cleaning operatives.
