What we’ve reported on
Major news from the government is that it is changing the way organisations bid for central government contracts, placing greater emphasis on social value and skills development from 1 January 2027.
The changes shift the assessment away from a broader range of social value measures and instead prioritise organisations that create local jobs, deliver apprenticeships and work placements, tackle skills shortages and support young people into employment.
That focus on skills development can only be a positive as FM and other sectors continue to cry out for more talent. Good timing perhaps given the research showing major skills gaps that pose safety and recruitment challenges for the M&E sector.
Good news comes from the Health and Safety Executive showing the lowest annual number of deaths (126 workers) from work-related incidents across Great Britain outside the Covid-19 pandemic years.
What we’re working on
Our publication date looms for the September-October edition of Facilitate. We’ve mentioned already that the approach is a little different this time round, with IWFM’s Strategic Leaders Forum ‘taking over’ the magazine to drive the strategic agenda. We’ve enjoyed our collaboration so far and we’re excited to share the finished product soon.
Meanwhile, we turn our focus to leadership and the ‘accidental manager’ as we begin preparations for future editions.
If you read one Facilitate piece…
No matter how much FM evolves, compliance will always remain a fundamental component of the function. Which is why this explainer article on common compliance gaps that still trip up FMs is a useful read.
As ever, you can find us at [email protected] or via LinkedIn for any suggestions you have for us to focus our future Facilitate activity.
