Facilitate Magazine editor Martin Read with the run down on this week’s industry news
What we've reported on
It’s the summer, so no parliament - but there’s plenty of politics going on. There’s ongoing unrest about the employment rights bill and we’ve reported this week how MPs are being called to support key amendments to the bill when it returns to the Commons. We know this bill is of critical importance to so many employers and IWFM members.
We’ve also been talking about differing attitudes to working from home; small engineering employers and late payment problems; and how unequal pay impacts ‘disabled workers and undermines economy, workplace culture’.
You can read these stories and the very latest news here.
What we're working on
Here in the heat of summer we’re continuing to promote the July/August print edition with its focus on the next generation of WFM professionals - what’s being done, what needs to happen and who’s doing important work in this area (it’s the Rising FMs network, btw, among others.)
This week we’ve been looking at the career decision making that WFM professionals make when they’ve reached a ceiling with their current employers. Beyond FM itself, what are the roles that you can move into and bring your expertly developed WFM skillset to bear?
Our IWFM Impact Awards feature continues to develop, and we won’t be shy in contextualising the ongoing evolution of the awards alongside commercial, political and cultural changes over the past quarter century.
If you read one Facilitate piece…
As part of our 'All rise' feature in the July-August edition of Facilitate, which explores the work of IWFM's Rising FMs network to attract the next generation of workplace and facilities managers, we spoke with James Hebberts, IWFM Rising FMs’ Regional Champion in the Midlands, about his education strategy to take WFM to schools, colleges and universities. This is an incredible piece of work that deserves your attention.
Where we could use your help
There’s a rumour that someone may actually know the answer to our longstanding question about who hosted the 2002 IWFM Awards. Well hopefully we’ll have an answer for you in a fortnight’s time. If not we’re going to draw up a list of people who might have filled this role and contact their agents.
We’re also looking to speak to any WFM professional whose career has seen them involved in the masterplanning of estates. If this is you, or if you know someone whose work has involved masterplanning, please do put us in touch.
And if you were successful in the IWFM Awards, either by winning a category or being part of a team / project that appeared in the list of finalists, we’re keen to speak to you.
You can get in touch with the team at any time via [email protected] - we're happy to talk
