The IWFM 2026 Sustainability Survey is now live, this year focusing on retrofit and refurbishment.

Conducted in partnership with Equans UK & Ireland and developed with the IWFM Sustainability SIG, the survey analyses current trends, identifying areas for improvement, and ultimately, contribute to a cleaner and greener future for the built environment.

The anonymous survey will remain open until 5pm Monday 20 July. It’ll take 10-15 minutes to complete, and is open to participants in the UK, Isle of Man and Channel Islands.

Questions will cover areas including:

  • Retrofit or refurbishment activity across operational buildings

  • FM involvement and influence in new builds, retrofit and refurbishment

  • Barriers, enablers and outcomes of retrofit or refurbishment projects

  • Where retrofit and refurbishment is not happening – and why

The insights we gather will inform strategic decisions, drive practical actions, and create new tools and training, expertly tailored to your needs as workplace and facilities professionals.

Amelle Mestari is the Sustainability & Procurement Director at Equans UK & Ireland: ‘Retrofit and refurbishment are essential to reducing carbon and extending the life of our built assets. FM professionals are central to delivering this in practice - bringing the expertise needed to embed sustainability into day-to-day building operations, improving performance, lowering costs, and enhancing user comfort and wellbeing.

‘The IWFM Sustainability Survey provides important insight into the real challenges and opportunities facing the sector. Our partnership with IWFM helps turn these insights into practical action - supporting the development of solutions and training that enable FM teams to accelerate progress towards a more sustainable built environment.’
