Experiential Route to Certified (CIWFM)

Let your experience do the talking

Achieve the IWFM Certified grade of membership without a qualification and get the recognition you deserve.

Are you a highly experienced workplace and facilities management (WFM) professional prevented from gaining Certified membership by not having a recognised qualification? IWFM’s Experiential Route to Certified membership (CIWFM) offers you the opportunity to gain industry recognition by the standard setter for the sector based on proven professional competence.

Why choose IWFM’s Experiential Route to CIWFM?

The Experiential Route offers an alternative pathway to Certified status. If, instead of a qualification, you have the knowledge, understanding and skills gained from your career, your practical experience can be now recognised and validated as an academic qualification would.

Is it right for you?

Designed for professionals likely to be in strategic roles, the Experiential Route to CIWFM allows you to demonstrate expertise gained from years of hands-on experience. If you’ve led complex initiatives and made key operational decisions this route can lead you to CIWFM post-nominals by demonstrating your competence through your real-world work.

To be eligible to apply, you should:

  • hold a senior or strategic role in workplace and/or facilities management
  • be responsible for planning and implementing significant strategic or operational changes
  • lead complex tasks and oversee the work of others, exercising broad autonomy and judgement
  • be able to provide examples from your work experience that meet the IWFM Professional Standards.

How to apply

Applying for the IWFM Experiential Route to Certified status is straightforward:

1. Check that you are eligible to apply

First make sure you meet the eligibility criteria based on your professional experience. There is helpful guidance in the ‘Useful resources’ section below. Alternatively contact our Member and Customer Engagement team.

2. Pay the assessment fee of £592 + VAT

Contact [email protected] or call +44 (0) 1279 712 620 to pay the assessment fee. The total cost is £899 + VAT which includes £592 for the assessment and £307 for Certified membership subscription for your first full year.

You won’t need to pay for the Certified membership subscription until you’ve passed your assessment. Plus, if paying upfront isn’t ideal, you can now opt for 12 monthly Direct Debit payments.

This fee has been carefully benchmarked to ensure it reflects the value of the certification and aligns with industry and other professional body standards.

IWFM members: To upgrade, contact [email protected] or call +44 (0) 1279 712 650 to upgrade your membership and pay the assessment fee.
